Saudi Arabia joined together with the international community for participating in World Sign Day. This event was celebrated on Sept. 23. The Ministry of Health implemented the “We Are with You” initiative. This brought in to support deaf people, raising staff awareness about the deaf community. This is a very thoughtful initiative. The MOH also gave training to its staffs. This planned to work with individuals who are deaf, teaching them sign language rules and basics. Adding on this also helped come up with ways to aid deaf people. Sign language includes 35 manual symbols. Each of this represents each alphabet and has an add of five other symbols representing diacritics. Similarly the Arabic language also includes numbers in its sign language system. In Arabic sign language there are around 53 manual symbols.
They also launched Awlawiya (Priority) Card which would be very helpful for the deaf people with respect tp health facilities. Following this they also offered electronic services like the Queries on Treatment Abroad Orders Service and the Mawid (Appointment) Service. An Online Registration initiative for people with disabilities, including the deaf also launched which got implemented through its E-Health system.
In addition to this they also planned a lot more. The ministry launched the Eshara app. This app works on providing direct services to the deaf and hearing-impaired. The app allows visual communication between deaf people and the remote sign interpretation communication center. This app works on translating sign language to spoken Arabic (and vice versa). This would be the middle part between the employer and the deaf. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development launched a series of training programs. This initiated to teach people about sign language basics in its branches in the Kingdom. The need to rise awareness is very much important to make sure they overcome the challenges.
