UAE Companies signs agreement with Syria

A group of UAE Companies has signed an agreement with Syria to build 300-MW power stations in Syria. Arab states have good relations with Bashar Assad after winning a brutal lasting a decade civil war, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On 12th November (Thursday), a group of UAE firms sign an agreement with Syria to build a 300-MW solar park in the Widyan al-Rabie area in the Damascus countryside as a sign of growing economic ties. The names of the companies which are launching the project were not disclosed yet. A deal between the companies demands that the project’s financing will be paid in quarterly installments for ten years after each section of the project is put into service for an implementation period of two years.
Syrian Ministry of Electricity said that it is expected to construct within two years. The project was approved last month by Syria, with Economy Minister Samer al-Khalil calling it a good sign for future investments in Syria. According to electricity minister Ghassan al-Zamil, it can be considered a good effort to increase the share of renewable energy as part of its 2030 strategy. The agreement came two days after the visit of a high-level UAE delegation to Syria, led by foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed.
After 11 years of conflict, nationwide protests demanding authority to change were met with a brutal government clampdown. It surges the war between regional and international power and killed half a million people.
The UAE reopens its embassy in Damascus in December 2018, and in March this year, it called for Syria to return to the Arab League. The war has damaged Syria’s power grid causing to cut the round-the-clock electricity now compounded by fuel shortages.
The Syrian electricity minister also signed a $115 million contract with an Iranian firm to restore a power station in the central province.
